Posing as customers at a local jewellery store located on Cross Cut road, four people stole close to 26 sovereigns of gold ornaments on Tuesday.
Police officials said that four people visited the store, R K Jewellery at 10.50am. They distracted the staff by asking them to show a variety of jewellry and stole 6 pairs off gold studs, a necklace, a dollar, a chain, bangles, rings and a bracelet.
"The staff found out about the missing jewels only hours after the accused left the shop. They immediately informed the owner of the shop, P Ramu," police officials said. Ramu informed the police and registered a case with the Kattoor police station.
Police officials said that they had begun investigating the case and were looking through the CCTV footages at the shop and other neighbouring shops.
They are looking for similar offences in the past and hope to catch the culprits soon. They have registered a case under sections, 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
