Personnel in the All Woman Police Station (AWPS) in Pollachi on Sunday arrested two persons for alleged sexual harassment of a 16-year-old girl.
The police said that the victim was a 10{+t}{+h}standard student in a school near Kottur.
The accused were identified as P. Chinnappan (67) and his friend R. Ramesh (48) of Malayandipattinam village near Kottur who allegedly abused the girl in November last year for the first time and again on February 14, 2016.
According to the police, in the first instance the girl was returning home from her school on a rainy day, when Ramesh took her to Chinnappan’s house, where she was sexually harassed by the latter.
In the second instance, the girl was alone at home when Ramesh harassed her.
Police sources said that the girl did not reveal the incident as the abusers reportedly threatened her.
She later told her parents based on which the girl’s father wrote petitions to the Chief Minister’s special cell and to a top police officer, from whom the issue reached the police here on Saturday.
Case
The police inquired the girl on Saturday and based on her complaint registered a case against Chinnappan and Ramesh under Sections 7 (sexual assault) and 8 (punishment for sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
On Sunday, a team led by Inspector P. Parvathi arrested the accused. The men were lodged in jail under judicial custody.
