Entrepreneurs must cater to middle class, poor'

Many of us are familiar with the term 'best practice', but branding and management guru Harish Bijoor introduced a new term called clean practice to the entrepreneurs of the city at the Ritz Jaguar entrepreneurship summit on Sunday. He spoke about the need for the rich to take care of the poor.

Harish said that he devised this concept from an incident that took place in Italy around eight years ago. He said, "I was at a coffee shop where the person at the counter asked me if I would like to suspend a coffee. While I was alarmed with the term 'suspend a coffee', I understood that he was asking me if I would like to pay for someone else's coffee too."

"A board was kept outside the shop showing the list of suspended items, and a needy person could walk in and ask for an item on the suspended list," Harish said.

The management guru said that this system of the rich taking care of the poor is the new model that the entrepreneurs should adapt. "What is happening today is that the industries are catering to the rich and the middle class, which accounts for only about two billion of the world's population. When they reach saturation, they do not know what to do next" said Harish. He said entrepreneurs should come up with business models that would cater to the lower middle class and the poor as well.

The forum also had emerging entrepreneurs in the country who spoke about their journey to success. Founder of vakilsearch.com Hrishikesh Datar and founders of Outhouse Kaabia and Sasha Grewal spoke about their experience of being young entrepreneurs.
