Kausalya returns to husband’s place

Kausalya, whose husband Shankar belonging to the Scheduled Caste, was killed recently by mercenaries allegedly hired by her family, was on Monday discharged from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. She was treated for injuries sustained in the attack. She returned to her husband’s house at Komaralingam village near Udumalpet in Tirupur district amid tight police security.

The 19-year-old woman suffered a fracture on her forehead. Doctors at the CMCH put 36 stitches on her forehead. During the 16-day stay at the hospital, she was given tight security. A few political leaders and activists met her at the hospital. She was escorted to her in-law’s home by a police team. Shankar’s brother V. Vigneshwaran accompanied her. CMCH Dean A. Edwin Joe said final sutures were removed on Sunday. “She need not come for a review unless she develops any complication, which seems unlikely,” he said.

Emotional Homecoming

Later in the evening, it was an emotional homecoming for Ms. Kausalya at Komaralingam. Ms. Kausalya, who is yet to recover from the trauma, said she wanted to stay in Shankar’s house and look after the family. “I wish to get some job first, preferably a government posting, and then want to pursue higher studies through correspondence. Only when I earn, I can look after the family,” she said. Mr. Vigneswaran told The Hindu that the family would not allow her to go out till she fully recovers. “We have not decided on the future,” he added.

Policemen have been posted outside the house as a precautionary measure.
