Maoist leader Roopesh produced before court

Maoist leader Roopesh was produced before a judicial magistrate court on Thursday evening in connection with two cases.

Police claimed that Roopesh had obtained two mobile SIM cards by forging documents at Ramanthapuram and Peelamedu.

The details were out after 'Q' branch officials carried out a detailed investigation last year. Subsequently, the city police formally arrested Roopesh and produced him before the court.

Peelamedu (law and order) police inspector K Gobi registered a case against Roopesh under Section 419, 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after receiving complaint from B Balachandramohan, 32 of Perumal Kovil Street at Sowripalayam, few months ago.

Police said Roopesh had purchased a mobile SIM card by using Balachandramohan's document.

'Q' branch police questioned Balachandran in connection with the SIM card. Following the investigation, he lodged a complaint with Peelamedu police against Roopesh.

On Wednesday, the police formally arrested Roopesh at the Coimbatore Central Prison.

Similarly, as Roopesh obtained a mobile SIM card at Ramanathapuram by using fake documents, Ramanathapuram police formally arrested him on Thursday. He was produced before judicial magistrate court -VI in connection with both the cases.

Police sources said Roopesh's wife Shyna was also booked for buying SIM cards by submitting fake documents at Podanur two years back. Podanur police would make the formal arrest soon.

Roopesh, his wife and three accomplices - Anoop Mathew George, Kannan and Veeramani - were arrested by the 'Q' branch police from a bakery at Karumathampatti in May 2015. All of them were lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
