AAP turns down PWF invite to fight TN polls together

Chennai, Apr 1 (PTI) A day after MDMK chief and coordinator of PWF-DMDK combine Vaiko met the state leaderhip of AAP here, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party today said it would not be possible for it to extend support to any alliance or party in Tamil Nadu for the May 16 Assembly election.

In a letter addressed to Vaiko today, AAP leader and in-charge for TN affairs, Somnath Bharti said his party "has keenly been watching the political developments in Tamil Nadu."

"It wont be possible for the party to extend support to any alliance or party in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming state election," he said.

Though he referred to a letter sent by Vaiko yesterday to Kejriwal, he did not make references to its contents.

Before he shot off a letter, Vaiko met the AAP state convenor Vaseegaran here yesterday and MDMK had described it as a "courtesy call".

MDMK party sources said the letter of Vaiko to AAP was an initiative to make the PWF-DMDK combine "more robust," indicating that it was an effort to sew up all "parties with a cent per cent clean image" to take on the "corrupt forces (AIADMK and DMK)."

Earlier today, PWF leaders Vaiko, G Ramakrishnan (CPI-M) and Thol Thirumavalavan had called on DMDK chief Vijayakanth to discuss alliance prospects and election related issues.

In February, the Aaam Admi Party had said during Bhartis visit here that it would "weigh its options" on forging alliances, vis-a-vis Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. PTI VGN APR PRM
