Uber launches Uber auto in Coimbatore

Uber, the smartphone app, today launched Uber auto in Coimbatore. Uber auto was launched to provide a cheaper transportation option to riders, especially when they have to run small errands like going to the grocery store or for last mile connectivity like getting back home from bus stops.

Mahesh Muraleedharan, General Manager of South Expansion, said the product also would give auto drivers an opportunity to work more efficiently using technology to get more ride requests and optimise productivity.

Uber auto would work exactly like the other option, uberGO, on the app and riders could request for an auto rickshaw ride by tapping the uberAUTO icon and they could pay for their rides via cash, e-wallet or Debit/Credit card, he said.

"For a city like Coimbatore where the city-landscape is not too big, it is easier to get around in autos, especially for errands like going to the bank or the grocery store. We're also excited to give auto rickshaw drivers an opportunity to earn more, with the backing of technology to get more rides," he said.
