Three pose as poll flying squad members, rob bizman of Rs1 Lakh

A three-member gang posing as members of election flying squad robbed a businessman of 1.20 lakh on Udayampalayam-Puliyakulam Road here on Saturday.

The victim told the gang that he had withdrawn the amount from a bank and produced the documents as well. But, the miscreants told him that they would verify with the bank and return the amount at his place. The businessman waited at his office for more than half-an-hour, but in vain.

Police said N Murugan, 48, of Karunanidhi Nagar at Sowripalayam here, owned a printing press unit at Sowripalayam area. On Saturday morning, he went to the Indian Bank branch in Meena Estate and withdrew 1 lakh. He also withdrew 20,000 from another ATM at Sowripalayam before heading to Town Hall for some business purpose.

When he reached near Jain Apartments on Udayampalayam-Puliyakulam Road on his motorcycle, a three-member gang stopped him and introduced them as flying squad members. They checked his bag and found 1.20 lakh. He showed valid documents but the gang got the bag from him and told him that they would verify the details with the bank and return the amount at his office at Sowripalayam. He was asked to wait at his office.

Murugan immediately left the place and waited at his office. When they failed to show up, Murugan alerted the Peelamedu police who rushed to the spot and took him to the bank to verify the transaction details.

Murugan told police that the trio came in a white colour car. Police have conducted vehicle check across the city but could not trace the accused. Police registered a case and further investigation is on.
