BJP hopeful of GST miracle in next session

The Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu expressed hope that the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Bill will be passed in the next part of the budget session.

While addressing the members of the local chapter of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Naidu said that the BJP Government had tried to pass the bill a few months ago, but "some friends raised some issue or the other."

He said that he had met the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi and the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard, and added that, if the GST bill is passed, the country's GDP will go up by 1.5 to two percent.

About the plans of making Coimbatore a Smart City, he promised all support and assistance to develop the city's infrastructure. He also said that he will take up the issues of the Mass Rapid Transport System and an overnight train to Bengaluru with the concerned ministries.
