Putting a smile on people’s face with delicious buttermilk

'Make Them Smile' is a virtual community on Facebook, and a page of the same name owned and run by this community has received about 811 likes, at the time of writing this article. A group of few like-minded people formed this community with the simple goal of putting smiles on the faces of the masses. Their latest initiative is the ButterMilk Project, and it is just four days old.

The ButterMilk Project is executed in partnership with one of the leading corporate houses in Coimbatore. The 20-day-long project was launched on March 30. Make Them Smile will target one area in Coimbatore each day. Post morning hours, the volunteers of the community will distribute buttermilk to the passersby in that area, helping them to quench their thirst.

So far, this community has successfully distributed about 2,500 litres of buttermilk in areas like the Government Hospital bus-stop on Trichy Road. When Make Them Smile was contacted, no one was available for a comment.

"My wife and I earn money on a daily basis to run our family. The money that I save by not spending on my food is used for my children. I wish I got this buttermilk everyday. It takes away my hunger. It is refreshing, and I can feed my children too," Kalidasan, said.

Hemlatha B., who was accompanying her mother to the Government Hospital from Sundarapuram, too enjoyed the glass of fresh buttermilk.

"On our way to the G.H., I was mentioning to my mother that it would be nice if we could have some buttermilk. I think this is God's gift for people like us who couldn't afford any expensive refreshments in this blazing heat," she said.
