Coimbatore: The Central Regional Transport Officer (RTO) led an inspection at Gandhipuram City Bus Stand in Coimbatore to check whether private and government buses were using high-decibel air horns.

During the inspection, buses with air horns producing sound above 90 decibels were fined, and the illegal horns were removed.

Sathyakumar, the Central Regional Transport Officer, stated that the inspection was conducted based on the District Collector's instructions and complaints about the continuous use of air horns in various vehicles across the district. The inspection team included officials from the Pollution Control Board, Police Department, and four Regional Transport Officers.

During the audit, it was found that 20 buses, including government buses, were using air horns with high decibel levels.

These buses were issued inspection reports. Sathyakumar mentioned that the fine amount ranges from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 10,000, depending on the violation.

The officer emphasized that the use of air horns is strictly prohibited as they cause noise pollution and disturb the public. He warned that stringent action would be taken against vehicles using such horns, and regular inspections would continue to ensure compliance with noise pollution regulations.
