Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS ordered the removal of encroachments on Saramedu Road, widening it from 15 to 50 feet. The first phase cleared 27 encroachments along 660 feet of road.

Coimbatore: In a decisive move, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS has initiated action to clear long-standing encroachments on Saramedu Road in the Central Zone of Coimbatore Corporation. The road, which had been reduced to a mere 15 feet width due to encroachments on both sides over the past 50 years, has now been widened to 50 feet in the cleared areas.

The Commissioner, after inspecting the site, ordered the removal of encroachments in three phases. The first phase of the operation was carried out on September 25, 2024, with the support of town planning officials and police protection. During this phase, 27 encroachments along a 660-foot stretch on both sides of the road were removed.

This action has significantly improved the road width from 45 feet to 50 feet in the cleared areas, much to the delight of local residents. The Saravanampatti Road is a crucial link connecting Pollachi Road and Nanjundapuram Road, making it an important thoroughfare in the city.

The Commissioner has already instructed officials to immediately commence the second phase of encroachment removal. Local residents have expressed their gratitude to Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS for his prompt action in addressing this long-standing issue.

The removal of these encroachments is expected to greatly ease traffic congestion and improve mobility for the public in this area. It also sets a precedent for addressing similar issues in other parts of the city, demonstrating the Corporation's commitment to improving urban infrastructure and public spaces.
