Coimbatore: In a shocking incident near Karumathampatti in Coimbatore district, a 53-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his 94-year-old father over a property dispute. The accused, Aruchamy, reportedly strangled his father, Chennimalai Goundar, to death last Thursday.

Chennimalai Goundar, a resident of Ananthapuram in Semmandampalayam, had four children - three sons and a daughter. All of them were married and living separately. The elderly man was residing with his youngest son, Aruchamy.

According to police reports, Chennimalai Goundar had recently distributed his property, consisting of two and three-quarter acres of land and a house, among his heirs. This decision allegedly angered Aruchamy, leading to the fatal confrontation.

After the incident, Aruchamy informed his siblings about their father's death, claiming it was due to natural causes. However, Chennimalai Goundar's eldest son, Velusamy, grew suspicious and lodged a complaint at the Karumathampatti Police Station.

Following the complaint, the police sent the body for post-mortem examination to the ESI Hospital. Subsequent investigation revealed that Aruchamy had indeed murdered his father.

The accused was arrested by the police and produced before the court on September 27. He has been remanded to judicial custody. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the tragic consequences of family disputes over property.
