Car Thief Injured in Accident on Valparai Road

A notorious thief from Ooty, involved in a recent robbery in Coimbatore, met with an accident while fleeing in a stolen car on the Valparai road, leading to his arrest.


Coimbatore: A car thief's escape plan went awry when he met with an accident on the road to Valparai, resulting in his arrest by the Peelamedu police. The incident, which occurred on September 28, brought an end to a recent robbery case in Coimbatore.

The accused, identified as Salomon alias Umesh Kumar (27) from Ooty in the Nilgiris district, was already wanted in several theft cases. A few days ago, he broke into a businessman's house in Peelamedu, Coimbatore, while the owner was out of town. Salomon stole jewellery and cash from the house and fled with the businessman's car parked outside.

Following the robbery, the Peelamedu police registered a case and formed a special team to track down the culprit. The breakthrough came when they received information about a car accident on the Valparai road. Upon investigation, they discovered that the person involved in the accident was none other than Salomon, who was connected to the Peelamedu robbery case.



In the accident, Salomon suffered a fractured arm. The Peelamedu police quickly reached the spot and arrested him. The damaged stolen car was also seized from the scene.

Further investigation led to the recovery of additional stolen items from Salomon, including a motorcycle, Rs. 1,20,000 in cash, and 5 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The injured Salomon was brought to Coimbatore and admitted to a government hospital for treatment while in police custody.
