A fugitive wanted for the murder of his mother-in-law in 2010 near Madathukulam, Tiruppur district, was arrested in Karnataka after 14 years on the run.
Coimbatore: The Madathukulam police have apprehended a man accused of murdering his mother-in-law 14 years ago near Vedapatti in Tiruppur district. The suspect, who had been evading authorities, was arrested in Mangalore, Karnataka.
In 2010, Rajan (45), a resident of Vedapatti near Madathukulam, attacked his wife Padmavathi and his mother-in-law Kaliammal (50) with a sickle during a family dispute. Kaliammal, who suffered severe injuries, died on the way to the hospital. Following the incident, Rajan went into hiding.
Acting on a tip-off, the Madathukulam police tracked down and arrested Rajan, who was hiding in Mangalore, Karnataka. He has been booked under three sections and was produced before the court before being remanded to judicial custody.
DSP Arumugam commended Inspector Balamurugan and his team from the Madathukulam police station for apprehending the accused after 14 years on the run.
