Tirupur: The Tirupur district administration and city police have jointly launched "Operation Zero Crime," an initiative aimed at protecting children from cyber and sexual crimes, as well as preventing drug addiction. The program was inaugurated today to guide students of schools and colleges in Tiruppur city, their parents, and the general public.

The launch event took place at the Tirupur District Collector's office, with District Collector Christuraj, City Police Commissioner Lakshmi, and Corporation Commissioner Pavan Kumar in attendance, among others.

Speaking to reporters, City Police Commissioner Lakshmi outlined the key aspects of "Operation Zero Crime." The primary objectives include preventing any criminal incidents against children, providing appropriate counseling to affected children to help them recover from problems, and creating awareness among school and college students and their parents.

A core committee comprising the District Collector, City Police Commissioner, District Chief Educational Officer, and college principals has been formed to oversee the initiative. A legal advisor and special police personnel have been appointed to assist and advise the committee. Three sub-committees have been established under the main committee.

Field officers, including inspectors and sub-inspectors, have been assigned to the first and second sub-committees with specific tasks. The third sub-committee has two advisory groups with designated responsibilities.

Under the first sub-committee, field officers such as inspectors and sub-inspectors will create awareness and provide counseling to parents of high school and higher secondary school students. The second sub-committee's field officers, including Assistant Commissioners of Police, will focus on college students in the city. Special Sub-Inspectors and Head Constables will create awareness among students in high schools, higher secondary schools, and middle schools in Tiruppur city.

Two counseling centers have been set up at the District Collector's office to provide counseling services to children in need, with qualified counselors available. Officers in this group have been assigned five schools and five colleges each. They will visit these institutions to discuss and obtain permission from principals for awareness programs and schedule timings. The officers will also visit students' homes to inform parents about the program, ensuring that the awareness reaches both children and parents.

Commissioner Lakshmi further explained that the main objectives of "Operation Zero Crime" include protecting children from cyber and sexual crimes, preventing drug addiction, safeguarding children during their biological changes, teaching traffic rules, and providing counseling to school dropouts and their parents to encourage them to return to school.
