A two-day exhibition in Coimbatore displays 250 varieties of greens and medicinal herbs, educating visitors about their health benefits. The event, organized by KEERAIKADAI.COM, aims to revive knowledge about traditional greens.
Coimbatore: An exhibition showcasing a wide variety of greens and medicinal herbs is underway in Coimbatore. Organized by KEERAIKADAI.COM, the two-day event is being held at Krishna Kalyana Mandapam in NGGO Colony, near Thudiyalur on Mettupalayam Road.
The exhibition features an impressive display of 250 types of greens and medicinal herbs, along with detailed information about their medicinal properties. College students are actively participating in the event, explaining to visitors the various benefits of these plants.
Among the exhibits are common greens used in everyday cooking, as well as a diverse range of medicinal plants and herbs known for their detoxifying properties. The organizers have made entry free for all visitors, with an option to register using a QR code. Many schools have been invited, allowing students to learn about the importance of greens and medicinal plants.
Sriram Prasad, the founder of KEERAIKADAI.COM, explained the purpose behind organizing this exhibition. "Our aim is to educate the public about the vast variety of greens and medicinal plants that were once a part of our diet," he said. Prasad pointed out that in the past, people consumed up to 500 different types of greens and medicinal plants, a practice that has largely been forgotten.
The organizers are planning to conduct a similar, larger exhibition in Chennai, which will showcase over 500 varieties of greens and medicinal herbs. Prasad also mentioned that those interested in purchasing these plants can order them through the KEERAIKADAI.COM website.
Emphasizing their commitment to natural farming methods, Prasad stated that their greens are grown without the use of chemical pesticides. Instead, they use natural pest control methods involving salt, turmeric powder, and pepper.
The exhibition not only serves as a platform for displaying these plants but also aims to revive the knowledge of their medicinal properties. Many of the varieties on display have become rare, making this event an important initiative in preserving and promoting traditional botanical knowledge.
Visitors to the exhibition have the opportunity to learn about the health benefits of various greens and herbs, potentially encouraging them to incorporate these nutritious plants into their daily diets.
