Coimbatore: Residents of Narasipuram in Coimbatore district are living in constant fear as a lone wild elephant continues to wreak havoc in their area. The tusker has been repeatedly entering the village, causing extensive damage to banana plantations, onion storage sheds, and houses.

Villagers have been pleading with forest officials to drive the elephant back into the forest. Despite regular patrols by the Forest Department to chase the animal away, it keeps returning to the village, causing more destruction. The situation has escalated recently when the elephant tragically trampled a sleeping resident in Arangeri village, intensifying the fear among locals.

In the latest incident, the wild elephant entered Narasipuram area late at night, following its usual pattern of destruction. It damaged banana plantations and destroyed an onion storage shed worth Rs. 5 lakhs before roaming freely within the village limits.

Concerned villagers have reported the incident to the Forest Department, urging them to intensify their patrol efforts to drive the elephant away. The farmers in the rural areas, gripped by fear for their lives and livelihoods, are desperately calling for immediate action to chase the lone wild elephant back into the forest.

The recurring incidents have highlighted the growing human-elephant conflict in the region, putting both the villagers' safety and their agricultural activities at risk. Local authorities are under pressure to find a sustainable solution to protect both the villagers and the wildlife.
