Heavy Rain in Coimbatore: Kanuvai Dam Overflows, Traffic Disrupted

Continuous heavy rainfall in Coimbatore for two days has caused Kanuvai Dam to overflow. Traffic between Kanuvai-Pannimadai affected. Residents advised to move to safer locations.

Coimbatore: Heavy rainfall over the past two days in Coimbatore has caused the Kanuvai Dam to overflow, resulting in floodwaters rushing downstream and disrupting traffic in the area.

The continuous downpour is attributed to the lower atmospheric circulation prevailing over South Tamil Nadu and the South-Western Bay of Bengal. This weather system has been causing heavy rainfall in various districts of Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, and Theni for the past two days.

Coimbatore has been experiencing heavy rainfall since yesterday, with last night witnessing severe thunderstorms and extremely heavy precipitation. As a result, many roads in the city were inundated with rainwater.

The Kanuvai Dam, located in the Kanuvai area of Coimbatore, has reached its full capacity, causing excess water to flow into the Sanganur stream. The overflow from the dam has led to traffic disruptions between Kanuvai and Pannimadai.

The public has been advised to exercise caution while traveling in these areas. Furthermore, due to the continuous rainfall, the district administration has instructed residents living in flood-prone areas to move to safer locations as a precautionary measure.
