International airport inspected to see if Zika screening are in place

The Coimbatore International Airport was inspected by a team from the directorate of public health on Thursday to check that Zika screening measures are in place. They inspected the airport's international arrival and departure terminal as per the health ministry's guidelines on the disease.

A five member team of public health officers, including deputy director Dr S Somasundaram, joint director (vector borne disease control) Dr S Saravanan and city health officer Santosh Kumar, inspected the airport to check for presence of mosquito breeding grounds. They also checked if pointers on the virus and its symptoms had been displayed on a prominent notice board in the airport and circulars on the virus are present for distribution to passengers at the arrival terminal.

Airport director, G Prakash Reddy, said that the officers were satisfied with the sanitary conditions of the airport. ""They did not find any existing or prospective mosquito breeding grounds,"" said Reddy. ""They again briefed the state health officer posted at the airport for the symptoms he should look out for among patients and the protocol to be followed,"" he said.

The airport authorities had already ensured that they had put up all the zika symptoms on the notice board at the international arrival terminal.
