MMK functionary car stoned

Seven members of the rival faction of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) on Tuesday night stoned State general secretary Tamim Ansari’s car in Kuniamuthur Police limits. The Police said that they had arrested Abdul Baser, Sahul Hameed, Abbas, Jainuladeen, Mubarak, Mohammad Rafiq and ‘Auto’ Rafeeq on charges of stoning Mr. Ansari’s car, assaulting a few members of the rival group and also abusing them.

The incident happened when Mr. Ansari went to the office of one of his confidants, Sudip, in Tiruvalluvar Nagar at Kuniamuthur.

Members of the rival faction who were there had objected to his entry into the area.

That led to war of wards between the two groups and the subsequent violence.

The Police had invoked provision of the Tamil Nadu Public Properties Damages (Prevention of Damages and Loss) Act to arrest the seven. The seven were sent to the Coimbatore Central Prison in judicial custody.
