GKD Matriculation Higher Secondary School is winner of Times Quiz again

Winning has become a habit for the quizzing duo of GKD Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Periyanaickenpalayam in the city. Bragadeeswaran S and Hari Krishna AS of Class 11 on Wednesday, won the Times Quiz for the second time consecutively.

Every time the duo made it to the finals of the Times Quiz, they have returned winners or runners up. "In 2014 we were finished runners up and are happy that we were able to replicate the success we achieved in 2015 this year as well," said Bragadeeswaran.

More than 1,200 students from over 50 schools across the city took part in the fifth edition of the Times Quiz held at Geedee Auditorium. The auditorium was packed with students joining in to watch even the premlims which had close to 625 teams battle it out for a place in the top six teams to participate in the finals.

The quizmaster Akshay Ananth kickstarted the quiz with a tricky question, and the prelims comprised 20 questions. There was tough competition for the top six places, and after valuation and cross checking, the teams from Amrita Vidyalayam, Kavundamapalayam, Chinmaya International Residential School, Vidhya Niketan Public School, Yuva Bharathi Public School, The PSBB Millennium School and GKD Matriculation Higher Secondary School made it to the finals.

Jeremy R S of Class 9 and Siddharth Prathap from The PSBB Millennium School emerged the runners up. The runner up team took off well in the first round, but lost points in the buzzer round, else, they would have been close to being the winners on Wednesday.

The city police commissioner, A Amalraj was the chief guest. He congratulated the winners and the participants, and said "There is a lot to learn for us, and information is available in different means today. Such quiz programmes are a motivation for kids, and also helps them know where they stand."

He along with the CEO of Park Group of Institutions, R Anusha, distributed the prizes to the winners.

"We are happy with the overwhelming response that we get every year for the quiz. This shows the kind of interest that children have for quizzing," Anusha said.
