Coimbatore: To commemorate World Mother Tongue Day, people speaking various languages gathered at Gandhi Park to take an oath to protect their mother tongue and to promote it. With children slowly shifting to English and other languages, many parents have stopped conversing with them in their mother tongue. S Radhakrishnan, general secretary, Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship (ISCUF) said that this was the eighth year that they celebrated the day in the city.
