Service Tax collection increases by 31 per cent


The Commissionerate of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax, Coimbatore, registered 31 per cent increase in Service Tax collection up to January this financial year as against the same period last year.

The Commissionerate celebrated Central Excise Day on Wednesday. According to a press release, Service Tax collection between April 2015 and January 2016 was Rs. 731.97 crore as against Rs. 558.40 crore during the same period last fiscal. Service Tax collection in this region was mainly from telecommunication providers and builders. In the case of Central Excise, the revenue collected by the Commissionerate went up from Rs. 334.67 crore last year (first 10 months) to Rs. 389.15 crore this year, registering a growth of 16 per cent. The total revenue realised by the Commissionerate was Rs. 1287.42 crore during the first 10 months of this financial year and it was expected to achieve the target fixed for the year.

Disbursement of drawback amount, which was an incentive given to boost exports, was Rs. 418.46 crore so far this year as against Rs. 272.55 crore last year. The Audit Commissionerate functioning here since October 2014 detected a short levy of Rs. 95.19 crore in Central Excise and Service Tax and Rs. 35.5 crore has been realised so far from the audited units. During this financial year, 1,144 units were audited, said the press release from V. Rajendran, Commissoner of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax, Coimbatore.
