Coimbatore: A 14-year-old boy was arrested for assaulting a youth with a knife and a beer bottle after a quarrel with a group of youngsters in Puliayakulam on Wednesday.
The youngsters, residents of Alamelu Mangamma layout in Puliyakulam, belonged to different temple bands. Two youngsters from the minor's band left to join a rival band.
Subsequently, boys from the minor's band questioned the two rebels which led to an argument. Four of the youngsters involved returned with knives and beer bottles to attack their rivals, said a police officer.
The police arrested the minor based on a complaint. The other three members of the band, Vijay, Kannan and Kaushik had absconded, said the official.
The complaint was registered by K Ponraj, 32 of the same area. The case was registered under Sections 294 (b) (sings, recites or utters any obscene song or words, in or near any public place), 323, (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) 324 and (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) 506(ii). (criminal intimidation).
