Leopard trapped in snare

A two-year-old male leopard was found trapped in a snare near Gandhi Nagar in the Lovedale reserve forest area in Nilgiris South division on Tuesday.

Forest officials, led by Divisional Forest Officer C. Badrasamy and WWF wildlife biologist Boominathan, were involved in the rescue operation. The Mudumalai forest veterinarian using a dart tranquilised the animal.

Forest officials would release the leopard in the same habitat after treating it for the injuries it had sustained in the snare.

Officials have initiated an inquiry to apprehend the culprits responsible for laying the snare to trap wild animals.
