Probe on into murder of woman, daughter

The police strongly suspect that Saravana Kumar (35) for whom a search has been launched could have murdered his sister Geetha (38) and mother Papathi (60) at their house in an abandoned commercial complex opposite Hotel The Residency on the Avinashi Road.

On February 24, the two women were found murdered and their bodies completely burnt and destroyed, more than a month after they were killed. A top police officer said that inquiries with the relatives of the victims reveal that Saravanan was demanding Rs. 25 lakh Papathi had in her bank account and the property that was in her name. It is learnt that he told a relative about a year ago that he wanted to kill his mother and sister over this issue. Investigations also revealed that the bodies were burnt after the victims were killed.

Found dead

M. Balraj (24), of Alangadi near Karamadai, who went missing on February 10 was found dead in the Alampali forest area near Tholampalayam in Karamadai on Monday.

According to the police, he went to his aunt’s house at Senguttai village and did not return home. Meanwhile on Monday, Najan (59), of Ookaiyanur village who went in search of his cows, found the skeletal remains on a man and informed the forest personnel.

On Tuesday, Balraj’s father R. Mallan (57) saw the remains and identified it as his son. The remains were brought to CMCH for post-mortem.

Arrested

Rathinapuri Police arrested R. Santhosh alias Rayappan (22), of Periyar Nagar near Saibaba Colony, on Tuesday for allegedly smoking cigarette on the face of a woman who was passing by and for harassing her when she questioned him for his act.
