A 35-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter who attempted suicide by trying to jump before a train near Singanallur were rescued by passers-by on Wednesday.
The police said that the woman was a resident of SIHS Colony, near Singanallur. It is learnt that the woman took the extreme step as she was upset that her husband had hidden his first marriage from her.
Two held for theft
A special police team of the city police arrested Saravanakumar (35), of Udumalpet, and Vaithyalingam (34), of Thenkasi, for having allegedly stolen around 150 sovereigns of gold jewellery from many persons at marriage halls in the city over the last few years by posing as relatives of the bride or groom.
A major portion of the stolen properties were recovered from them, police said.
