Indian tennis star Sania Mirza reached the city on Thursday night to play a different role altogether.
Marathon
She is not going to wield the racquet with the tennis stars here but will be a special guest in the My India Marathon 2016 scheduled at the CODISSIA grounds on Friday morning.
Jointly organised by the Varnam Foundation and Miracle Media Events Private Limited, the marathon is aimed to create awareness for cent per cent vote polling.
The marathon will be held for the schoolboys (6.1km) and girls (4.1km) and for men (12.1km) and women (6.1km). The race will begin from the Codissia grounds at 5.30 a.m. and will pass through Thaneer Pandhal, Cheran Ma Nagar, Saravanampatti and culminate at the starting point. The Padma Shri awardee will distribute certificates and prizes to the top finishers.
Later in the day, she will inaugurate the newly-laid acrylic synthetic tennis courts at the Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology on the Neelambur bypass road. Her very presence is expected to inspire the young crowd.
