Hosiery manufacturers plea to defer implementation of new tax

Hosiery manufacturers have appealed to the State Government to defer the implementation of the new e-C-Tax, an online dealer-friendly commercial tax services rolled out on January 29.

“We are supposed to file the returns and claim the input tax credit all through the new system from April. However, the registered dealers are yet to get familiarised with the system and switching over to such a totally electronic method of cash remittances/filing of returns need more time to acclimatise,” pointed out R. Damodaran, joint secretary of South India Hosiery Manufacturers Association.

He further pointed out that the Commercial Tax department had conducted just one session with the Association members here to teach us the intricacies of the system.

More Sessions

“The authorities should ensure that more interactive sessions are organised before making the e-mode regime mandatory,” he said.

With the introduction of the new system of filing returns and making payments, the Commercial Taxes department would not be accepting cheques or cash payment.

According to hosiery-sector industrialists, many micro and small scale manufacturers, who have been using cheques for payments till now, will need more time to make necessary adjustments by adding necessary electronic gadgets to the office inventory.
