Taxi driver found dead in Thadagam Road

A 60-year-old tourist taxi driver from Udhagamandalam was found dead in his car near the Government College of Technology on the Thadagam Road here on Monday.

Ethiraj had blood stains on his face and was found strangulated using a shawl.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the man was a resident of Southwick on Coonoor Road in Udhagamandalam. He is survived by wife and three daughters. He was operating the car from the tourist taxi stand at Charring Cross in Udhagamandalam.

It is learnt that around 3.30 p.m. on Sunday he got a trip to Coimbatore.

At about 9 a.m. on Monday some people saw a car with its windows raised near the office of the Joint Director of Agriculture near the Lawley Road junction and informed the police.

The police found him murdered.Ethiraj’s body has been taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examinations. Dog squad and forensic experts have been pressed into service.

The police are collecting CCTV footage recorded in the nearby signal and other private buildings to identify the suspect and get more details on the incident.

A case has been registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Nisha Parthiban who conducted preliminary inquiries at the spot said that three special teams have been formed to crack the case.
