Gandhipuram Flyover – Victims demand compensation for demolished houses

Residents, whose houses were demolished for the construction of the Gandhipuram flyover, staged a protest today demanding compensation for their losses.

The Corporation officials had earlier cleared the roadside stalls and houses to make room for the Rs.167 crore flyover, which is being constructed near Gandhipuram last week. They had informed the residents that they will be paid compensation, but no amount has been given to them so far.

Since the civic body did not respond in time, residents who lost their houses staged a waiting protest at thesame place, demanding compensation.

One of the victims said, “We have been living here for the past 67 years. Our houses were demolished by the Corporation without prior information, but they have not yet given compensation to us.”

Police arrived and pacified the protesters.
