A 15-year-old male elephant was killed in a clash between two tuskers near Vakarai River in Pollachi Range in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve on Wednesday. Forest personnel said that people in the nearby tribal hamlets heard strange noise around 2 a.m. and informed the department.
Forest department personnel saw an elephant badly injured and another wild elephant that attacked it standing close by. After chasing away the other elephant, forest personnel tried to treat the badly injured elephant, which was moving around before it died around 1.30 p.m. Post-mortem will be conducted on Thursday.
