Response picking up for Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme

On March 8, International Women’s Day, parents of as many as 43 girl children in the district received passbooks for long-term deposits for the children.

The National Federation of Postal Employees Union (Class III) and Coimbatore Postal division had organised a function and Postmaster General for western region Manju P. Pillai handed over the passbooks to the parents of the children.

All the girls were aged below 10 years and were residing in the seven tribal hamlets at Siruvani Adivaram.

Initial investment

The officials of the postal division had contributed Rs. 43,000 and accounts were opened for each girl child under the Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme with an initial investment of Rs. 1000.

The deposit would mature after 21 years. Thus, all the girls aged below 10 years in these hamlets had been covered under the scheme.
