Tirupur dalit murder: four detained

The four persons who had been detained - Jegadeesan, Selvakumar, Manikantan and Madan - were friends of Kausalya's father. 

Following the brutal murder of dalit youth V. Sankar (22) on Sunday, the police have detained four persons in connection to the case. All four have been taken to the Udumalpet police station.

No arrest was recorded by officials till now, according to sources.

Sankar and his wife Kausalya who belongs to the Thevar community, were attacked by a gang of persons with weapons on Sunday. While Sankar died, Kausalya is recovering from the injuries at a Coimbatore hospital.

Police sources said the four persons, Jegadeesan, Selvakumar, Manikantan and Madan, who had been detained, were friends of Chinnasamy (39), Kausalya's father.

Chinnasamy, who runs a travel agency, surrendered before a court at Nilakottai in Dindigul district on Sunday.

NHRC visit

Meanwhile, sources told that a National Human Rights Commission team was likely to visit Udumalpet on Wednesday, where the crime had occurred.
