Coimbatore : M Sathishkumar, a Class 12 student from a Corporation School has bagged two gold medals in the 61st Republic Day Sports Meet which is a state-level athletic meet held at the Bharathi Stadium, Neyveli, Cuddalore.
Coimbatore : M Sathishkumar, a Class 12 student from a Corporation School has bagged two gold medals in the 61st Republic Day Sports Meet which is a state-level athletic meet held at the Bharathi Stadium, Neyveli, Cuddalore.
Sathish who has been training under Vairavanathan of Genesis Sports Club has set two new meet records by completing the 5000 m run in a duration of 15 minutes and 31 seconds, surpassing the previous record of S Kirubakaran which was 16 minutes and 13 seconds. He also completed the 3000 m in 8 minutes and 49 seconds and is the first person to do so at a school State level meet.

"Sathish has consistently been securing medals in all state and national level meets. Previously, he secured bronze in the 34th National Junior Athletics Championship held in Ranchi and will bring in the medals in Olympics and laurels to our District and nation," said an elated Vairavanathan, coach of Sathish.

Gokul of the Genesis Sports Club bagged silver in the 5000 m run and Vikhashini C secured the bronze medal in the 400 m run, in the RD Sports Meet. C Vishrutha bagged silver in 100 m hurdles in the Girls Under 17 category, in the same event. Sathish Kumar and Vishrutha of Genesis Sports Club have qualified for the National level meet (School Game Federation of India) to be held in Delhi, later this year.
