Coimbatore : As many as 200 tribal youth from various tribal villages enthusiastically participated in the volleyball tournament for rural and tribal youth, the 'Rural Premier League' held at Puthukadu, located near Thengumarauda.
Coimbatore : As many as 200 tribal youth from various tribal villages enthusiastically participated in the volleyball tournament for rural and tribal youth, the 'Rural Premier League' held at Puthukadu, located near Thengumarauda.
A total of 22 volleyball teams from Hallimoyar, Kallampalayam, Anaikatti, Chemmanatham, Sundapatti, Sokkanalli, Bakada, Karkkaiyur and Gundri participated in the tournament and exhibited their skills. The event was jointly conducted by The Rural Initiatives Vertical of Young Indians– an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) allong with WWF India, in association with the NGO-PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) and Durgamalai Youth Club, Puthukadu, with the support of Tamil Nadu Forest Department.

The tournament was conducted to promote the sports activities in rural and tribal villages, engage them in healthy team-building activities and to raise good players for the national and international levels.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Manoj Rajagopal, Young Indians and Stephen Ajay (WWF-I) who handed over the team jerseys and name boards with sponsors logo to the respective team captains.

The tribal youth team, Anaikatti Youth Club 'A' won the first place in the Rural Premier League and Dr. Narasiman Youth Club from Sundaipatty emerged as runners in the tournament. The prizes for winners and other players were awarded by Manoj Rajaopal representing Yi-Cii, Steffan Ajay and Paraman of WWF, Pushpa Kumar of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups , Mohan Kumar- State Vice President of BJP in Charge of Overseas Tamils and Mohan Prasad, the Author of Tamilnadu Butterflies (WWF- I).
