Parambikulam Dam near Pollachi has recorded a water level of 27.05 feet as of August 24, with continuous inflow of 45 cubic feet per second due to southwest monsoon rainfall in the catchment areas.
Coimbatore: The Parambikulam Dam, located near Pollachi, has witnessed a significant rise in its water level following consistent rainfall in its catchment areas during the southwest monsoon season. As of Saturday, August 24, the dam's water level has reached 27.05 feet, authorities reported.
The Parambikulam Dam has a total storage capacity of 72 feet. The continuous rainfall in the catchment areas has ensured steady water inflow into the reservoir, contributing to the gradual increase in water levels over recent days.
According to official data, the dam is currently receiving an inflow of 45 cubic feet per second from its catchment regions. To manage the water levels and ensure dam safety, authorities are releasing 1,165 cubic feet of water per second from the reservoir.
The southwest monsoon, which typically brings substantial rainfall to the Western Ghats region where the dam is situated, has been favorable this season. The increased water storage in Parambikulam Dam is expected to benefit agricultural activities and meet drinking water requirements in the downstream areas.
Dam officials continue to monitor the water levels closely and adjust the outflow as necessary to maintain optimal storage while ensuring the safety of the structure and surrounding areas.
