'Indians are topmost in reading and read on an average of 10.4 hours in a week:' Dr. B Sivakumar, Librarian, PSGCAS at SKASC in Coimbatore

Dr. B Sivakumar was of the opinion that initially Indians spent more time reading newspapers, but now gradually have started reading other books and magazines, along with newspapers.



Coimbatore: Sri Krishna Arts and Science College (SKASC), Coimbatore conducted an event called Library Readers' Club in which both faculty and students participated.



Dr.B Sivakumar, Librarian, PSGCAS who was the Chief Guest said, "Indians have now started reading not only newspapers and various magazines and books. Indians read on an average of 10.4 hours in a week, next to the Chinese at 8 hrs, Americans at 5.4 hours, the English at 5.18 hours and Japanese 4.06 hours in a week respectively.

Initially Indians used to spend more time reading newspapers, now gradually they have started reading other books and magazines, along with newspapers. Our Indians are giving much importance to daily newspaper reading. Information is the sixth resource for human survival, for without information, we cannot live in society.

Each and every person needs information for day-to-day life. We are now living in the Information Technology era. Now income is generated from information. The knowledge economy is ruling the world."



Meanwhile Dr. R Jagajeevan, Principal of the college initiated the Readers' Club inauguration, while one of the English Faculty members, R Saranyasri proposed a vote of thanks, with Dr.D Vijayalakshmi, Assistant Librarian who coordinated the event.
