Coimbatore: Karpagam Nursing College marked 'World Forest Day' on Wednesday by highlighting the theme 'Forest and Health.' The event was held under the guidance of Dr. R Vasanthakumar, Chairman, Managing Trustee and K Murugaiah, CEO Karpagam Education Institutions.
Professor R Sutha, Karpagam Nursing College supported and inaugurated the program by planting a sapling of a coconut tree.
All the faculty members and students participated in the event.
The event highlighted the need to conserve forests since forest covers are considered a natural wonder of the world. With people being responsible for the loss of about 13 million hectares of forests, each year, 'World Forest Day' this year highlights the theme of Forest and Health.
The event also highlighted deforestation as the main problem facing today's world. At the end of the event, participants used their own steel mug instead of using paper cups for refreshments.
