Coimbatore: In an official communique, DGP J.K.Tripathi has instructed all Police Commissioners, IGs and District SPs to ensure that all police information including correspondence, government stamp, name board and signatures should be in Tamil.

The action comes after the recent, three-day program held by the State government on implementation of Tamil language at the Office of the Chief Inspector General of Police.

In the circular dated November 20, the DGP has stated that "Employee record, pre-register and all records should be maintained in Tamil language. Similarly, police personnel must sign the attendance register in Tamil. All draft correspondence and references should be written in Tamil."

He further enforced that "All police vehicles should have the word 'Police' written in Tamil. And, all office stamps and name boards should be in Tamil. The relevant police officers are requested to give proper advice to all Headquarters staff and all other Police Officers in respect to implementing Tamil Language in their police stations with immediate effect."
