People advised to inform of their existing medical conditions before taking Covid-19 vaccine - Serum Institute of India


New Delhi: Three days after the largest inoculating programme against Covid-19 was launched by the Indian government, the Bharat Bio tech and Serum institute of India, have released a fact sheet throwing light on the benefits and adverse effects of Covaxin and Covishield vaccine.

The fact sheet advises people to refrain from taking second dose of Covishield vaccine if they have any adverse effect or suffer allergies after taking the first dose.

A shot of Covishield vaccine contains L-Histidine, L-Histidine hydrochloride monohydrate, Magnesium chloride hexahydrate, Polysorbate 80, Ethanol, Sucrose, Sodium chloride, Disodium edetate dihydrate (EDTA), Water for injection.

Serum Institute of India (SII) says in its website that the fact sheet was released in line with the risks and benefits of the Covishield vaccine.

It says that people should refrain from taking second dose, if they are allergic to the prior dose.And, lactating mothers, pregnant women and those planning to get pregnant should seek advice from the healthcare practitioners before administering vaccine.

The general side effects of the vaccines are tenderness, pain, warmth, redness, itching, swelling or bruising at the injection site, while feeling unwell, chills or feeling feverish, headache or joint aches are other expected side effects.

It is also advised by the vaccine maker to people to inform their healthcare experts about their existing medical conditions before taking vaccine shot and seek proper advice, if they are prone to diseases that affects immune system.

Each Covishield doses consists of 0.5ml and the second dose of the same is recommended to be taken after 27 days.

It is be noted that as of Monday, a total of 580 people have reported mild adverse symptoms following Covid immunisation in India.
