Jal Jeevan Mission: 5,593 houses provided with drinking water facility in Coimbatore

Rural development ministry released a statement that about 5,593 houses in Coimbatore are given access to water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which was done under a budget of 17.04 crores.


Coimbatore: PM Modi's Central Government promised that every village across India will have access to water supply facilities before 2024 under the Jal Jeevan Mission. As a part of that scheme 60 panchayats in Coimbatore district will get access to water supply in the current financial year.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission water pipe connections to houses, establishment of borewells and building of primary and secondary ground level water wells will be completed. Government has sanctioned a budget of ₹74 crores for this.

District Rural Development Officer said that about 5,593 houses in Coimbatore are so far given water supply connection under a budget of 17.04 crores.

In the press release it was said that: "Under the Jal Jeevan Mission 311 villages from 60 panchayats are selected in Coimbatore and water supply is planned to be given to almost 50,953 houses. So far 70 projects have been completed and around 623 projects are under progress. By the end of this financial year all the plans will be completed."
