Over 71 lakh children to be administered polio drops at 43,051 booths in TN, tomorrow


Coimbatore: 

As many as 71 lakh children are to be administered with polio drops in the nation-wide polio immunisation campaign scheduled on January 31. 

Earlier, the pulse polio immunisation programme was rescheduled from January 17 to 31, in line with the Covid vaccine drive

All children below five years will have to be administered with polio drops at designated booths between 7 AM to 5 PM on January 31, said a release from the State government.

The release further directed people to adhere to Covid precautionary measures like washing hands, maintaining social distancing and wearing face masks. 

Accordingly, public with Covid-19 symptoms like fever and cough would not be allowed inside the booths.

A total of 43,051 booths have been established in all primary health centres, government hospitals, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centres, noon meal centres, schools and other important places across the State for the vaccination and two lakh personnel would be involved, as volunteers. 

The release also said that the State is about to enter the 17th polio free year, due to successful implementation of the pulse polio immunisation.
