Coimbatore: The Forest Department has announced that only 750 tourists will be allowed on weekdays in Kovai Kutralam as part of the restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the district.

The Kovai Kutralam which is one of the major tourist destinations in Coimbatore district witnessed a large influx of tourists on the occasion of Tamil New Year's day on Wednesday. Due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed, only 1,000 people were allowed and many were asked to return.

The Forest Department had announced that only 1,000 people will be allowed entry into Kovai Kutralam during holidays and only 750 people will be allowed on weekdays. The tourists will be allowed entry in groups of 5, daily. Each batch will have 150 people who will be allowed from 9am to 10pm, 10.30 am to 11.30 am, 12 pm to 1 pm, 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm and 3 pm to 3.30 pm respectively. 200 people will be allowed per batch during the same timings on holidays. Every tourist visiting Kovai Kutralam will have their body temperature checked before paying the entrance fee.

All tourists must wear a mask and those who do not have a face mask will be allowed inside the tourist spot only after purchasing a mask from the entrance to the Falls. Before boarding the vehicle from Sadivayal to Coimbatore, the body temperature of each passenger will also be checked and hands will have to be sanitized.

The Forest Department has requested tourists visiting Kovai Kutralam to cooperate by adhering to the COVID-19 protocols.

Only 120 people will be allowed in Baralikadu

Baralikadu which is located near the Pillur Dam in the Western Ghats of Coimbatore district is open to 120 tourists on weekends alone. Those who wish to go to Baralikadu will be required to make a reservation by paying online at https://coimbatorewilderness.com

The eco-tourism, which resumed on March 13 has thus far attracted 1,000 visitors.
