Collector waives weekend Covid restrictions in Coimbatore, as majority of population have been vaccinated

Commercial establishments, malls are advised to ensure their staff are fully vaccinated and follow all Covid protocols.


Coimbatore: The recent announcement by Coimbatore Collector lifting Covid restrictions on Sundays has brought huge sigh of relief among businessmen, commercial establishments, restaurants and the public.

Following resounding success of mass vaccination camp held in the district on 12th and 19th of this month, close to 2.5 lakh of eligible population have been vaccinated. In a total, 80 percent of the population, i.e., 24.5 lakh people have been administered vaccine in the district, so far. Hence, the restrictions announced on Sundays exclusively for the district of Coimbatore are being waived, District Collector G.S. Sameeran, announced.

The Collector has also passed strict orders to all establishments to ensure their staff have taken both the shots of vaccines and follow all Covid measures imposed by the Tamil Nadu Government. The Collector has advised people holding weddings and get togethers to strictly follow all Covid protocols especially social distancing and wearing masks.

And, all schools and colleges are advised to conduct only online classes to students who have to travel from Kerala, on a daily basis. And, students from Kerala should be permitted to stay in hostels only after obtaining RT-PCR tests. Any violation in this regard will be dealt strictly, he informed.

The Collector has also permitted operation of Pollachi Cattle Shandy with restrictions. As per the order, only local traders should be permitted to trade in the shandy, no traders from Kerala should be allowed. Sub-Collector and revenue department officials are advised to monitor the situation. Any violation will lead to closure of the shandy, he warned.
