As part of monsoon preparedness, 456 flood rehabilitation centers ready to accommodate people in Nilgiris; District Collector

District Collector stated that 456 flood rehabilitation centers are ready. There has been no need to evacuate people from low lying areas. If the rains continue, people will be evacuated tomorrow and accommodated in relief centers.



The Nilgiris: J. Innocent Divya, District Collector Nilgiris district stated that Gudalur, Pandharpur area, received 8 cm of rainfall last morning and 7 cm this morning and the area is being monitored 24*7.

She was speaking to reporters in the Nilgiris district today and said the Chief Minister, through video conferencing, today held a consultation meeting to discuss about the rains and how each district is handling the situation.

The district collector stated that the rains have prompted tourists and the public to be on the constant lookout for rescue teams in the area. She urged those who are in need on the road to seek help so as to not cause any traffic disruption. She said that despite the impact of heavy rains in Gudalur, Pandharpur area, the water levels have not resulted in the area flooding so far.

Currently 456 flood rehabilitation centers are ready to accommodate people in case a situation of emergency arises. The district collector added that there has been no need to evacuate people from low lying areas that are very susceptible to floods. “If the rains continue, the people in the low lying areas will be evacuated tomorrow and rehabilitated to the relief centers,” the district collector said.
