Coimbatore: The District administration has issued flood alert to villages along the banks of Bhavani River as the Pillur dam has attained almost full capacity. The water level at the dam is currently 97ft against a total scale of 100ft.

The better seasonal rains this year have increased the water levels of dams in the Ghats region. Pillur dam attained full capacity four times in two months. As the inflow of water to the dam increased, about 30,000 cusecs of water are being released from the dam through its four shutters considering the dam’s safety.

The district administration has issued flood alert to villages along the Bhavani River like Nellithurai, Alankompu, Vachinampalayam, and Lingapuram. The Bhavani temple along the banks of this river has almost submerged.

District administration has advised the public to not to venture to water for fishing. It has also advised public living in low lying areas to move to safer places.
