The Railways have taken one more step in digitizing ticketing services. Users of the UTS on Mobile App can now book paperless mobile tickets from any station in Southern Railways to any station across Indian Railways. Earlier, there was a restriction on booking paperless tickets to destinations outside the Southern Railways.

According to a Southern Railway statement, "Now paperless or printout type tickets can be booked when you are at any location within 5 kms of the originating station right up to the station concourse (about 25 minutes from the platform/train).

On the concourse/booking office area, also using the QR code scanning method, paperless UTS tickets can be booked if the passenger is in any suburban station. The QR code for each station is pasted on a poster displayed at all booking offices in the Chennai suburban area.

The paperless UTS booking to all Railways/destinations will be rolled out on 1/11/2018 all over India. Public travelling are requested to make use of the enhanced facility for making their travel experience simpler and easier."
