Rs. 2.15 lakh seized from banana farmer

Election officials seized Rs. 2.15 lakh from a banana farmer hailing from Tiruchirapalli, in the early hours of today near Pollachi.

The officials on vehicle stopped a mini lorry at Mannur and after a search found the money, which however did not have proper documents, sources in the election department, said.

Though the driver, Shaktivel, also a banana farmer told them that he had sold the banana in Kerala and was returning to Tiruchirapalli, with the payment.

Since there were no valid documents, the officials seized the amount, they said.

Officials have so far seized Rs. 23.67 lakh, which were without proper documents in the district, till yesterday.
